We are a friendly and welcoming married couple, in our 40’s (host mother) and 50’s (host father). Your host mother works in a professional office and is also a qualified English Language teacher (Cambridge CELTA / Bachelor of Communication), and your host father is a business owner. Both of us have travelled, worked and lived overseas, and have enjoyed meeting and hosting international guests. We know what it is like to learn second language, and we are happy to help you practise your English.
Our home is a 100 year old character villa, which we will be starting to renovate. Our house is located in a private lane and there is a bus stop at the end of our driveway, where you can catch the number 60 bus directly to the Christchurch Bus Exchange. The Orbiter bus departs from The Palms Shopping Mall, which is a 5 minute drive from our house, and this is the most popular bus route for easy access to Christchurch's malls and shops outside of the central city. The Orbiter departs every 15 minutes, travelling in both clockwise and anti-clockwise directions.
Local amenities include The Palms Shopping Mall (supermarket, library, post office, cinema, pharmacy), Bottle Lake Forest (walking or biking), Taiora Recreational Centre (gym and pool), and New Brighton Beach where you can visit the pier, library or the hot pools, sauna and cafe.
The room available has good natural lighting, a queen size bed with good quality bed linen, wardrobe, mirror, a desk and chair, lamp, and a door opening to an outside deck. There are two separate lounge areas with TV, Wifi, Netflix and Disney available. The bathroom is shared.
We have two beautiful small dogs, that don’t shed fur and who love people. We do not smoke.
We can pick you up from the airport upon arrival, or from another location in Christchurch. If you have a car, there is a parking space available for you.
Our interests include: watching movies, walking our dogs, going out for coffee/ restaurants, cooking/ trying new recipes, doing things around our house, motorbike rides (host father), seeing our friends and family, quiz night and trying to grow vegetables. We have an exercise/ spin bike that you are welcome to use, and you can borrow a bicycle if you would like to.
We enjoy trying all different kinds of tasty food, and hope that you can introduce us to some food dishes from your own country for us to try and cook too.
